Course Description
The ministry of the pastor is part of the five-fold ministry mentioned by Paul in Ephesians chapter 4. In the New Testament, the "pastor" was known as the feeder, protector, guide and shepherd of the flock of God's people.
The term "pastor" in this early time in church history had not yet become an official title but was more related to a function or type of ministry — implying the nourishing and caring of the people of God.
The Greek word translated "pastors" in Ephesians 4:11 is used elsewhere in the New Testament as "sheep herders," literally or symbolically of Jesus (Matt 25:32) and of shepherds or leaders of the promises of God. The disciples were also shepherds. They continued to follow the example set by Jesus and therefore we read in the Book of Acts how the Church grew in numbers.
